A website is claiming that ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme of Women and Child Development (WCD) is providing jobs, laptops, printers and mobiles to girls on a payment of Rs 2,100.
PIB’s (Press Information Bureau) Fact Check Unit has taken note of the website and said that it is fake. It has also asked people to visit official website https://wcd.nic.in/bbbp-schemes for correct and official information.
The fake news is being shared on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp.
According to the Ministry of Women and Development, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme focuses on changing the conservative mindset in the social system towards daughters, strictly enforcing the PC and PNDT Act and furthering the education of girls. It is not a DBT (direct benefit transfer) scheme. The ministry has advised people not to share their personal details with anyone in this regard.
PIB launched this fact-checking unit in December last year, to curb such misinformation and viral fake news related to government’s schemes and policies that are circulated on social media platforms.
“On the fake website of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign of Women and Child Development, it is being claimed that jobs, laptops, printers and mobiles will be provided by giving Rs 2,100.
