Former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi has been nominated by the BJP as its candidate for by-election to a Rajya Sabha seat from the state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday nominated former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi as its candidate for by-election to a Rajya Sabha seat from Bihar.
The Election Commission said the by-election will be held on December 14 in case the rival alliance led by RJD decided to contest. The counting of votes will also be held on the same day.
The Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant after the demise of Ram Vilas Paswan, the founder of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
Sushil Kumar Modi was not given any berth in the new state cabinet former after the recently concluded elections.
Instead, BJP’s Tarkishore Prasad was made the Bihar deputy chief minister after the party won the recent state election.
Nitish Kumar, who became the Bihar chief minister for the fourth straight term, said he would miss Sushil Kumar Modi, his long time deputy.
