Delhi is fast turning into the epicentre of the Covid-19 crisis in the country with the city reporting over 10,000 cases for the second consecutive day. The city recorded 11,496 new cases in 24 hours on Monday, the highest till date and 7% higher than Sunday’s 10,774 cases. The positivity rate rose to 12.44% from 9.43% a day ago.
Amid an exponential surge in Covid cases, Delhi government on Monday declared 14 private hospitals as full Covid facilities and increased the number of beds in other private hospitals from 50% to 60%, adding 2,060 Covid beds.
Another 593 beds were created in six government hospitals, including Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital, Burari Hospital, Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital and Ambedkar Nagar Hospital, all fully Covid hospitals.Temples across the city have stepped up arrangements for Navratri which starts on Tuesday in light of the raging Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions on religious gatherings.
