Hyderabad: A medical student died in the city as a drunken friend crashed the car they were travelling in into a tree in Gachibowli on the night of November 8.
P. Priyanka (20), a third year MBBS student is the third individual to become a casualty of drunken driving cases in the last two days. On the night of November 7 as well, two youngsters were killed and two others were hurt when a drunk driver crashed their car in Karkhana.
The girl, a resident of Madhura Nagar, died on the spot, according to Gachibowli police.
When the police made Mithi (the boy in the driver’s seat) undergo the blood alcohol count test, his reading was found to be 44 mg. Srinivas, Gachibowli inspector told the Times of India, “It seems that Mithi, who is new to the roads in this area, got confused and lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree at high speed. Priyanka died on the spot.”
30 mg/100 ml of alcohol is the permissible limit for driving. The youngsters were school classmates and it was in the past few days that they had reunited through common friends. Priyanka and two other friends had met at a pub in Jubilee Hills on Sunday.
Later they had called Mithi to join them. After partying, all of them left by his car. Mithi and Priyanka had dropped off the other two at their homes and decided to go on a drive to Durgam Cheruvu hanging bridge, which proved to be fatal for the latter.
