French warships arrived at a port in Kochi on Friday ahead of the La Pérouse joint naval exercise between the navies of Quad members.
La Pérouse will be held from April 5 to 7, less than a month after Japan, the United States, Australia and India – four major democracies in the Indo-Pacific region – held their first summit meeting through videoconferencing.
"It’s a training session between France, India, Japan, US and Australia," said Captain Arnaud Tranchant, Tonnerre ship. "There will be 8 ships, I will be the commanding officer of the task group as this training is a French initiative.
We will make many such pieces of training to enhance interoperability between different navies," he added.
The ‘La Perouse’ will have 8 ships from India, the US, Australia and Japan, led by France, will be like an exam and is also the last leg of training for 150 young French cadets, which includes women cadets.
