India becomes the third most badly Covid-19 affected country

India’s COVID-19 tally is now the third-highest in the world, according to the data by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Johns Hopkins University’s coronavirus resource centre.
According to the data, India is the third worst-affected country after the US and Brazil. As of Tuesday morning, India’s COVID-19 tally stood at 11,646,081. While the US tops the chart with over 2.98 crore cases, Brazil is a distant second with 1.20 crore cases. According to the centre, India’s tally stands at 1.16 crore.
On Monday, India recorded a spike of 46,951 new infections within 24 hours, the highest daily rise since November 2020. This is the 12th consecutive day when the country’s COVID-19 tally kept rising.
In a further worrying observation by the WHO, the global coronavirus deaths have also seen a rise over the past six weeks.
The spike in COVID-19 cases across the globe has been worrying many governments, many of which have intensified the measures to arrest the spread of the deadly pandemic.
Germany, for instance, has announced a full lockdown till April 8 coinciding with the Easter holidays. German chancellor Angela Merkel, on Monday, noted that the ‘situation is serious as case numbers are rising exponentially and intensive care beds are filling up again’.
