JNU students’ union Chief to contest for the assembly election in West Bengal

Aishe Ghosh, the chief of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students’ union will contest the assembly election in West Bengal as a CPI (M) candidate. She will contest from Jamurai constituency.
“Will be contesting from Jamuria Legislative Assembly Seat as candidate of the CPI(M), supported by the Sanyukt Morcha. Requesting all of your support,” Ghosh tweeted on Thursday.
Photographs of Ghosh’s bloodied face and bandaged forehead had become powerful images of the JNU protests in January last year. The violence on the university campus and brutal attack on students and teachers had made headlines and triggered national outrage. According to reports, 26-year-old Ghosh is the first sitting president of JNU students’ union to contest an assembly election.
Elections to the 294-member West Bengal assembly will be held in eight phases starting from March 27. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
