Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again hit out at the BJP, calling its leaders outsiders who only come to Bengal before elections and not when the people of Bengal need.
As politics intensifies in poll-bound Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once again invoked the ‘outsider’ jibe against the BJP and warned people not to fall for ‘Dilli ka laddoo’.
Speaking at a TMC rally, she said, “Some outsiders are coming here to show Dilli Ka Laddoo. You won’t find them when you are in need, but they come during elections. They will give you a lot of money through central agencies. I want to tell all TMC workers here if you want to be in my party, you can’t be greedy. Learn to sacrifice. CPM and BJP are greedy. Don’t fall for them,” she said.
Calling out Home Minister Amit Shah on his visit to Bengal, she said, “The Home Minister came here at a tribal house and ate food brought from a five-star hotel. A Brahmin cook was brought to do a stage-managed drama. They have cheated the tribals. It was nothing but a photo-op to cheat the tribals of Bengal!”
Mamata Banerjee also accused the BJP of not releasing central grants. She said, “They have stopped all central grants. They take our taxes from Bengal and act as if it is their own money. They are trying to loot the land of farmers, they have passed a new bill. They are constantly lying about central grants. I have written to them several times. I challenge them to show if they have really sent any money.”
She also said if the BJP offers money, people should take it and then vote for the TMC.
“I am telling you if they give you money take it and then vote for us,” she said.
“Some people are thinking let us open links with them (BJP) by chance if they come to power. Let me clearly tell them, there won’t be any such chance,” she said.
Talking about the TMC’s work in Bengal, she said, “We are giving free ration, free medical care, free education, free cycle.”
The West Bengal Chief Minister reminded people of the CPIM’s regime. She said, “Let’s not forget those days of CPIM’s reign of terror in Bankura. Have we forgotten those days? Today people are living in peace here, that’s why CPM, BJP and Congress are so angry. That’s why they have all joined forces to defeat the TMC. They worked together to defeat us in the Lok Sabha polls.”
She also challenged BJP to put her in jail and said she would sweep the polls prison.
She said, “I challenge them to arrest me. I will win the election from jail.”
After having a limited presence in the politically polarised state for decades, the BJP has emerged as the main rival of the ruling Trinamool Congress by winning 18 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the 2019 general elections.
Elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly are due in April-May next year.
