Kolkata: 22.01.2021. The annual State Khadi Mela has commenced at Taltala Ground on 22nd January 2021 at the Taltala Ground on Prince Anwar Shah Road. It will continue till 8th February 2021. The fair starts at 1 PM and concludes at 9 PM. Cultural programmes are an added attraction on holidays.
The Khadi Mela was inaugurated by State Power Minister Sri. Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay and Minister of State for Micro Small & Medium Enterprises and Textiles Sri. Swapan Debnath. Among the dignitaries present on the day were Mr Ratan Dey, Member Mayor In Council, Kolkata Municipal Corporation., Sri Baiswanor Chattopadhyay, Member Mayor-In-Council, Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Sri Gouri Sankar Dutta, Member, West Bengal Legislative Assembly and the Chairman of The West Bengal Khadi and Village Industries Board.
Sri Mritunjoy Bandyopadhyay CEO, WBKVIB greeted honourable guests and the audience with his welcome speech. The whole inauguration programme was presided over by Sri Gouri Sankar Dutta, Honourable Chairman of WBKVIB.
There are as many as 34 khadi stalls and 41 village garments stalls in this fair. The main focus of the fair will be fashionable Khadi clothes. This fair is organised to provide craftsmen with the opportunity to sell garments directly to the customer and also to provide a platform for direct Buyer and Seller interaction. It also promotes the export of Khadi products and handicrafts. Cotton, woollen, silk and hand-woven Khadi fabrics, handicrafts, garment products and food stalls will be part of the mela.
