The gorgeous Deepika Padukone, fondly known as the reigning queen of Bollywood, has portrayed various characters in her 15 year long career.
While some made us laugh, others made us fall in love with her all over again. However, one of her most iconic on-screen characters ever is Veronica from the super hit film Cocktail. Helmed by Homi Adajania, the romantic comedy drama co-stars Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty in the lead. The film not only boasts of incredible performances, but also a fresh and intriguing story line.
The film completes 9 years today and it continues to be one Bollywood’s must watch masterpieces. Talking about her feisty character in the film in a chat with Hindustan Times, Deepika shared, “Veronica will always be one of my most special characters I’ve played; one that changed a lot for me professionally and impacted me personally.”
The actress also revealed that originally, she was given Meera’s script, the character which later marked Diana’s debut. But writer Imtiaz Ali called her and asked her to re-read it with Veronica’s bits. It’s amazing how well things turned out for both the actresses!
Cocktail followed the story of Veronica, who takes Meera in after the latter has been stranded at the airport by her husband. They become the best of friends but things take an ugly turn when Gautam aka Saif enters their life. Initially he is in a casual relationship with Veronica. But while she falls in love with him, he begins to have feelings for Meera.
