New Hopes New Visions

“what Pant was able to do in the last 2-3 months, no other player would be able to do even in a lifetime”: Ravi Shastri

From being criticised over his extended run in the team despite unworthy performances to becoming the team’s go-to player, Rishabh Pant has had quite a journey over the last couple of years. Especially over the last 2-3 months, Pant has arguably been India’s finest player. In fact, India head coach Ravi Shastri feels what Pant has done for India in the recent months, no player would be able to do in a lifetime.
The Sydney and Brisbane Tests in Australia saw Pant rescue India from losing positions to eventually play a big role in the 2-1 series triumph. The 4th Test in Ahmedabad once again saw Pant help India take a huge first innings lead from a position where they once were struggling to even match the first innings total of Joe Root & Co.
Shastri, reflecting on Pant’s heroics with the bat, said that he could relate with the success that the wicket-keeper has had at this early stage of his career as he also had similar experiences during his early days.
“At 21, 22, or 23, I had similar success, so I can relate to as I scored hundreds overseas. What you can never take away is exuberance of youth. It’s only when the baggage comes of being a known quantity and that’s when life starts,” Shastri told reporters at a virtual press conference.
Pant was subjected to extreme criticism, both for his form and his fitness, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. The lad from Delhi worked incredibly hard and proved his critics wrong by putting superlative performances for India match-in match-out.
Shastri, hence, feels what Pant was able to do in the last 2-3 months, no other player would be able to do even in a lifetime.
